Let me start by saying that this rating is based on the cost compared to what you get. This is my first bar bell (and so far still my only one) and at first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars on a bar because honestly I didn’t know if I would even stick to lifting. Well I definately have and could not be happier. But not to get off topic, this is an excellent 1st bar. If your like me and are just getting into lifting and setting up your home gym, this bar is perfect. Well perfect for that situation anyway. When it arrived it was straight, weighed 44.6 pounds, and the ends spun adequately. 4 months later and it seems to be exactly the same. It has taken 400 pound dead lifts like a champ and not bent at all. I also droped it once with about 200 pounds on it onto the concrete floor (not bumper plates) and there seems to be no ill affect. About the only bad thing I have noticed is that the knurling could be just a bit more aggressive. And the sections are not perfectly spaced. By that I mean if you use the rings for centering you may be a bit off. I measure all the knurling and rings and found about some spots to be 1/2 to 3/4 inch off from center. I used some electrical tape to mark true center on those areas. It’s just something to be aware of.

What’s an Oly Power Bar anyway? Probably a regular old barbell and that’s okay, October 12, 2017

Received this a day earlier than expected. There was a label tied to the bar warning of the anti-rust substance they apply before shipping. This must be the oily mess some folks have talked about. Mine had a light finish on the collars and a little less so on the bar and was really quick and easy to wipe off. The label recommended using soap and water. I did, and it worked well. The knurling is a little more aggressive than what you might find at a commercial gym. Can always be sanded down if it’s absolutely a non-starter. I’d prefer the option to sand over having too little a grip out-of-box. This would not be great for Olympic lifting. Should you decide to emulate your favorite Crossfit YouTube videos, be aware of the loosening collars the more the bar rolls around. You may find yourself emulating less exciting YouTube videos should you ignore that advice. If, you check the fasteners as much as you check the flushness of your sweet bumper plates you’ll likely live a long prosperous life. If, you want a generic beater bar to use in your garage or basement for your 4 favorite movements, you could do a lot worse. Cheap. Solid. Effective.

I liked this bar enough to buy two of them. For the price, it’s what I’d recommend. It’s not perfect, but it ticks all the right boxes. I do have some complaints, the first, of course, being that it’s underweight for a standard Olympic Bar. It’s 44lbs, not 45lbs. I know that hardly matters, but it matters to me. Also, when I received my second bar, the bar was dirty. I don’t know how or why, but the bar had mud on it, even though it was packaged properly and the plastic wrap had not been breached. Overall, I do recommend it.
